Dating Tips and Advice for Singles in San Diego, CA

"Lately more and more people have been using the gym to meet more and more singles.

A great spot for a date is on the ocean beach pier. If you walk all the way down to the end, you can sit on one of the benches and watch the sun set while being able to learn more and more about each other. There is also a restaurant on the pier." -Mary, Spring Valley

"It seems a lot of girls around here are shallow and glammed out, but there are still some aloof surfer chicks, elitist indie rockers, and innocuous girls next door, too. Some are passably interesting, perhaps even so far as a relationship, but most are not. Eye candy. It's nice to look, but probably not worth your time.

First Street Bar in Encinitas is OK for meeting people, if you like bars. I prefer the more hip places in the more urban areas closer to downtown, like the Zombie Lounge, Ken Club, and the Casbah, especially when there's live music. Coffee Shops seem like they would be good. Java Hut, the Pannikin and E Street Cafe in Encinitas are nice.

I like taking girls on walks on the beach, or around Leucadia and old Encinitas. The Self Realization Fellowship has an amazing meditation garden, and Quail Botanical Gardens is nice too. It's fun bringing girls to Lou's Records to see in-stores or peruse the huge variety of music they have.

For restaurants, i'd bring a date to one of these places: Sam's Place (Solana Beach) has great middle eastern food and a romantic ambience, Ki's (Cardiff) great-tasting healthy grub and spectacular views of the beach and the San Elijo lagoon, Amici is a cozy South American fusion restaurant on 101 but it can be expensive. Siamese Basil on 101 has great Thai food, but lacks somewhat in decor. Tomiko is a great sushi and japanese restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking Moonlight Beach. Birdhouse Grill on 101 in Leucadia is great no frills turkish food with a cozy ambiencem and The Roxy on 101 in old Encinitas is almost a diner, but strong emphasis on quality ingredients (excellent falafel and salads!)." -Josh, Encinitas

"Good spots to take a date:
Balboa Park, Seaport Village, Walking around Downtown and the Convention Center, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Cove, Coronado Bridge and Beach. Also, going sight-seeing on the Trolley." -Lori, Paradise Hills

"A good place to take a girl in San Diego is a dessert cafe called Extraordinary Desserts. It is on 6th St. Downtown. It is a great place to eat amazing desserts and to talk. The atmosphere is wonderful for getting to know someone. Highly recommended!" -Amy, San Deigo

"Fitness is big in San Diego, of course, the culture helps with many options to stay fit. If you want to go out for a night on the town, head to the Gaslamp, but if you just want to get outside and be able to get some exercise in and talk some, never underestimate the wild animal park or zoo..." -dwonk, Rancho Penasquitos

"The Gaslamp District is a perfect place for dating, and are a great deal of things for single men and women and for couples to do. I love living in San Diego. It's a perfect place to live in, except that the cost of living here is so expensive. Thank goodness for military housing!" -Amerin, Tierrasanta/Murphy Canyon
